Sumatra Aceh Tengah Organic Lot # 956

Sumatra Aceh Tengah Organic, Lot # 956

This coffee is grown 1200 masl in the northwest region of Aceh Tengah. The province of Aceh in Indonesia is divided into regencies which in turn are divided administratively into sub districts, known as Kecamantan.

This coffee is grown by smallholder farmers who grow predominantly indigenous cultivars using avocado trees as shade (such as TimTim, Ateng, Djember) on 1.5-2 acre plots. Farmers pulp their cherries at the farm and partially dry the mucilage on elevated tables before sending the crop to millers to remove the parchment. This unique processing method gives the beans their distinct flavor. In cupping and drinking this coffee you can’t help but wonder how such quality can be produced in the face of so much adversity.

This coffee has a heavy body and low acidity. Its aroma includes caramel, malt and allspice. The malt and caramel is carried over into the taste where it is accompanied by nutmeg, nougat and cardamon. This coffee is sweet and balanced. It is a true Aceh and should be respected as one. We scored this coffee a 85 on our cupping table and suggest it to be prepared as either as filter or as a spicy single origin espresso.

We hope you enjoy!
